A group of academics have spent years closed up in a home working on the encyclopedia. When one of them finds that his entry on slang is outdated, he ventures to the broad world to know in regards to the evolving speech. Here he meets with Sugarpuss O'Shea a nightclub singer, who is along with all the slang --also, it just so happens, needs a spot to stay.
