Overview
Empty Nest is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1988 to 1995. Founder and manufacturer Susan Harris created as a spin off of The Golden Girls the show. Empty Nest was among the top 10 programs of the year. It was made by Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions in association with Touchstone Television.
The series concept borrowed some elements from the comedy show Father, Dear Father having a father coping with dog and both brothers. However both daughters in Nest are adults that are self-supporting, and also the lead character is just a widower.
Empty Nest was a portion of NBC's Saturday night block and throughout its first 4 seasons it aired at 9:30pm ET, directly after Golden Girls.
Two of those cast were alumni in among Susan Harris' earlier shows. Mulligan has been Manoff's father-in-law at Soap.
