Joe Pendleton is a quarterback preparing to lead his team to the superbowl when he is killed in an collision. An over anxious angel plucks him to paradise just to detect that he was not ready to die, and that his body was cremated. A new body must be found, and that of a murdered millionaire is preferred. His wife and accountant, the murderers, are confounded by this evolution, since he buys the L.A. Rams in sequence to once again quarterback them in to the Superbowl.
