Speleologists from northern Italy's growing region arrive in August 1961 on a plateau in Calabria where time has stopped. Under the watchful eye of an elderly shepherd who is the only eyewitness to the uninhabited area, the invaders find one of the world's deepest caves, the Bifurto Abyss.
