A comedy about a screenwriter (Wuhl) whose old film script gets reviewed by a producer (Landau) and the subsequent search for financial backing. However, it appears as though each financier (Aiello, DeNiro, and Wallach) has their own mistress in mind for the film. Gradually, the screenwriter is pushed to alter his work to please these funders, until there is no trace of his original ideas left in the writing.
