Overview
Based on André Carl van der Merwe's book, Moffie (a derogatory Afrikaans word for a gay man) tells the story of Nicholas van der Swart. From a very young age, he knows he is different. No matter how hard he tries, he can't live up to the macho image that his family and his heritage expect of him. At age 19, he is forced to join the South African army, where a system that is almost over but still in full force offends all of his senses. This is a long-overdue story about the emotional and physical pain that many young men went through during the South African border war against communism.
