Plans for a cinematic adaptation of a hugely successful play in 1950s London's West End are abruptly abandoned after the murder of a crucial crew member. When world-weary Inspector Stoppard and eager rookie Constable Stalker embark on the case, the two are thrust into a perplexing whodunit inside the glamorously sordid theater basement, looking into the unexplained homicide at their own risk.
