Due to their common admiration of author Jean-Sol Partre, who eventually consumed their relationship, Chick fell in love with Alise. Later, Colin, the main character, also develops feelings for a young girl named Chloe. However, after they get married, Chloe develops a bizarre ailment in which a water lily sprouts in her lungs.
