STYRIA is based on Sheridan LeFanu's seminal 19th-century vampire story, Carmilla. The movie takes the viewer into a haunted world of fantasy and obsession, just like the vampire story. In 1989, Lara Hill (Eleanor Tomlinson) goes with her art-loving father (Stephen Rea) to an old castle across the Iron Curtain. There was a car accident right outside the castle. Carmilla, who is beautiful and mysterious, comes out. Carmilla is secretly let into the castle by Lara, and the two start having a very good time together. Then, when Carmilla mysteriously disappears and women in the town start taking their own lives, Lara's psychological wounds burst open and turn the town of Styria into a living hell.
