Sumikko Gurashi made their debut in 2012 as slightly unpleasant characters who prefer to hide in corners of rooms. The characters include "Shirokuma," a sensitive polar bear; "Penguin?" (with a question mark in its name), a penguin who is unsure whether it is actually a penguin; "Tonkatsu," an uneaten pork cutlet; "Neko," a shy cat; and "Tokage," a dinosaur who conceals his true nature as one of the last dinosaurs. The franchise has spawned toys, novels, stationery, computer games, and, most recently, a feature film.
