Overview
In the Republic of Utopia, due to the nation's severe economic crisis, the Jews are made scapegoats for the nation's economic and social issues; as a result, the government chooses to remove them. Leo Strakosch is one of the refugees. He is betrothed to the daughter of Counselor Linder. He enters the Republic clandestinely in order to demonstrate to the society the folly of their anti-semitic prejudice. Bettauer's novel is very different from the screen adaptation. "Vienna" was given the moniker "Utopia." Even better, a joyful ending was included.
