Professor Sinigaglia (Marcello Mastroianni) stars in this darkly humorous Italian film about exploited factory employees in Turin. These employees, who are forced to work in awful conditions at a textile factory, have no one to advocate for them until Sinigaglia risks his academic career by assisting them in initiating a strike. While the teacher faces opposition from hostile authorities, he remains committed to the workers' cause.
