When a fissure explosively opens in a British sand apartment throughout a military exercise there, injuring one soldier and murdering another, an American research scientist in a nearby nuclear plant joins with an British investigator to discover why the sufferers were radioactively burnt and why, shortly afterwards, a set of radiation-related events are occurring in an ever-growing direct line apart from the fissure.
