Overview
Suzanne Simonin describes her life of suffering in letters. As a young woman she's sent to a convent against her own will. That they pick she has to instead become a nun since her parents can't pay the dowry required to get a marriage befitting her position. Suzanne's desire to have freedom remains unabated although understanding Mother Superior and a kind helps to master the daily routine of that the convent. Suzanne finds herself up against harassment, humiliation and reprisals at the hands of the different Sisters and their Abbess After the Mother Superior dies.
